Bandwidth/Speed Tests on the Net

These tools are useful for getting a quick look at how much of the bandwidth you pay for you're actually getting. By running tests from several different networks, you can sometimes spot anamolies with a certain network. It's likely that your ISP has a test located on the local network, which is useful for determining whether the problem is internal, at the boarder between the ISP and the 'net, or external.

You can also use the traceroute utility (usually "tracert") which will show you lag times for each hop between you and a destination.
